The Maine Coast Book Shop will be hosting award winning author Colin Woodard on
Tuesday\, December 15th at 10am at the Skidompha Library. He will be
speaking and signing copies of his new book\,
AMERICAN NATIONS\: A History of the Eleven Rival Regional Cultures of
North America.
American Nations is a revolutionary and revelatory take on America’s
myriad identities and how the
conflicts between them have shaped our past and are molding our future.

If you want to better understand U.S. politics\, history\, and culture\,
AMERICAN NATIONS\:
A History of the Eleven Rival Regional Cultures of North America\, is
required reading.
In AMERICAN NATIONS\, Woodard leads us through the history of our fractured
continent\, and the rivalries and alliances between its component nations. He
explains why “American values” vary sharply from one region to another—how
an idea like “freedom” as understood by an East Texan or Idahoan can be the
polar opposite of what it means to a New Englander or San Franciscan.
Woodard reveals how intra-national differences have played a pivotal role at
every point in the continent’s history\, right up to the 2012 elections.

An award-winning journalist who has reported from more than 50
countries on six continents\, Woodward has written about climate
change\, health care\, torture\, eggs\, turnpikes\, tidal power\, Maine
politics\, the Civil War\, Canadian opinions\, zoning\, Lady GaGa\, nuclear
power\, stolen art\, military history\, European economics\, ceramics\,
birdwatching\, same sex marriage\, and seaweed. And that’s just in the
last two years. He is foreign correspondent for The Chronicle of
Higher Education and The Christian Science Monitor\, and a contributing
editor at Down East\: The Magazine of Maine

SUMMARY:\\"The Lighthouse Santa \\" IIlustrator signing
DESCRIPTION:

Please help us welcome Julia Miner\, illustrator of &quot\;The Lighthouse Santa&quot\; to the bookshop Saturday\, December 17th from 11-1...

&quot\;I had the pleasure of hearing the author read this book to a group of
children this past weekend\, including my 6 and 8 year olds\, and it was a
truly enjoyable experience. All the children\, even younger than mine\,
were rapt in the story (as were the adults!). A very sweet story based
on the true story of Christmas presents being delivered by airplane to
the children who lived in lighthouses along the Northeast coast....set in Marblehead\, this story is for anyone who has ever been inside a lighthouse or has seen some of their
remote coastal locations. The fact that it is a true story makes it even better&quot\;. .....Cathy W.

Based on the Christmas flights of Edward Rowe Snow\, hero to lighthouse
children for almost fifty years\, The Lighthouse Santa has all the
elements of a true Christmas classic\: light\, love\, wonder\, and the power
of one child's faith to shine through darkness. From the midst of the
howling storm to her own soaring flight with the Lighthouse Santa\, Kate
must cling to her father's promise that &quot\;Nothing is impossible on
Christmas Eve in a lighthouse.&quot\;
